2014 Golf Day
This year was the 26th edition of the annual golf day held at the Kyalami Country Club on June 20th 2014. Like last year, the event was very well supported – with a full field booked a month in advance, plus a waiting list.
36 teams battled it out on the golf course, with 2 teams teeing off from the same tee in a shotgun start. The players were treated to some good entertainment and delicious snacks as they went through the course, courtesy of a few companies that had sponsored holes.
The 6th and 14th holes were the blindfold holes, where players were given the opportunity to experience what people with visual impairments go through on a daily basis. Even though the players had one shot under blind fold, it was enough to open their eyes to the realisation of the hardships experienced by the visually impaired.
After a long day of fun, there was the prize giving to look forward to. 36 fourballs entered the event and 36 fourballs received prizes for their efforts on the golf course. Thanks to our most valued sponsors, we managed to put a smile on every player’s face in appreciation of their loyal support.
This year, the trophy was lifted by team Xcorp – of Xcorp business solutions. “These guys sure can play golf” said the MC as he presented the trophy to them.
The runners up, for the first time ever, was a ladies team – Team Clatworthy – well done ladies.
A lot of work went into the planning of the golf day, from getting fourball bookings to sourcing prizes for our auction and players. We could not have achieved this if it weren’t for the golfing ladies – Glenda Rae, Helena Pires, Lesley Henderson, Michele Van Straaten, Michele Sparkes and Livie. Thank you so so much ladies, for giving so selflessly of your time and expertise – you girls ROCK.
This year, the goal was to raise enough funds to purchase a new training van. Thanks to all who contributed, I am delighted to announce that we reached our goal – over R300000 raised on the day, which was sufficient. We now have a new training van.
Lastly, thank you so much to all our sponsors, players, volunteers, the staff and puppy raisers who supported us on the day. I sincerely hope you will be able to support us again next year.
