Bedfordview Rotary inspires the youth to make a difference too
One of our pups on the Puppy Raising scheme, Raela, recently accompanied O’Reilly, working Guide Dog and PR dog of S A Guide-Dogs Association, to attend the annual Golf Day held by the Bedfordview Rotary Club in aid of GDA. This took place on Wednesday, 11 May 2016, at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club. Bedfordview Rotary Club renewed their commitment to support GDA over the past few years and since then several bronze dog sponsorships were made in collaboration with King David School, Linksfield, and partners from their community.
It must have been this spirit of giving that inspired Jenna Meaden (pupil from the St Andrews School for Girls) to pledge her support to the education of Raela by adding an additional R10 000 towards the club’s fundraising efforts. Jenna’s father, Greg Meaden, from GJM Ultra Brokers, also supported GDA during the 2015 Bedfordview Rotary’s year.
Special credit must also go to the learners of King David, Linksfield, who held their second dog walk at the King David Linksfield campus earlier in 2016 – in partnership with Bedfordview Rotary to make a difference by helping to provide Independence, Mobility and Companionship to the differently-abled persons we serve. Thank you Bedfordview Rotary Club for your ongoing efforts to ensure a better future for one and all!
Raela’s puppy raiser, Jan de Waal, very proudly enlightened the prize giving attendees about socialising and raising these busy, furry friends to become contributing members of society in their own right.
