Puppy Walking Picnic
We celebrated yet another event in our Diamond Jubilee year on 18th August, our PUPPY RAISERS CELEBRATORY PICNIC.
Our Puppy Raisers, Breeding Stock holders and families were invited to a special event, to thank them for the fantastic, unselfish contribution they make to the Association. These folk complement our breeding and training programs, by welcoming our puppies into their homes and lives for the first important 12 to 18 months of their lives.
Our stock holders look after our breeding dogs with great care, ensuring they are in tip top condition for breeding.
Coloured streamers and balloons decorated the grounds at the Gladys Evans Training Centre. The weather was kind to us, a beautiful clear, warm Highveld winter day.
On arrival everyone received a gift of a commemorative “Sheena” mug.Sheena was Gladys Evans’ first Guide Dog. The picture on the mug is from an original sketch by Gail Glover, Training Services Manager
And so the feast began. There were welcome drinks on arrival. Old friends greeted each other with much joy, pleasure and laughter as they re-united and caught up with their news. The doggie guests greeted each other with much exuberance.
For those energetic folks there was a Treasure Hunt, with clues scattered around the training centre. Throughout the day, there were lucky draws held.
A delicious picnic lunch was served to all the guests.
During lunch we were entertained by Guide Dog owner Paul Drake, who played his guitar, and sang beautiful, nostalgic songs.
After lunch an award ceremony was held, acknowledging the many years, and many puppies our puppy raisers have spent helping SAGA achieve their goal of providing Mobility, Independence and Companionship to the visually and physically disabled folk of South Africa.
Our grateful thanks to all our special Puppy Raisers, Breeding Stock holders and families for all they do for the Association, we salute your commitment.
Thank you to the Training Department and all other staff members involved in making this one of the most memorable occasions in our historical 60th Diamond Jubilee celebration year.
