Meet our Ambassador Dogs

July 4 2025

We are thrilled to officially introduce our SA Guide-Dogs Ambassador Dogs. This well-loved corps of dogs has the important task of raising awareness and spreading valuable information about our beloved Association.

Our Ambassador Dog group was informally created about four to five years ago but was officially launched in 2024. An enormous need was identified for some of our “change of occupation” dogs with good behaviour, sound temperaments and good health to be applied positively, and the decision was made to keep them in service of the Association as our Ambassadors.

These beautiful dogs who do us so proud have their own identification jackets and represent the Association when we visit retirement villages, senior clubs, companies and so forth, where they act as ambassadors for SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind. They bring relief to our Puppy Raisers and their pups, who sometimes have their hands and calendars full assisting our Marketing Department with appearances in semi-public spaces. Although they do not have any rights as Assistance Dogs, and only have pet status, they are happy and proud that they can still apply their skills to influence the South African public and share information about the work of the Association.

Since its inception, the number of our Ambassador Dogs has almost doubled, which means that we get to reach more people and places where we are able to make a difference. We look forward to a busy year ahead and paying your club, retirement facility or company a visit.

To book an information session and meet our Ambassador Dogs, please contact Pieter van Niekerk at PieterV@guidedog.org.za or on 011 705 3512.
