Why Donate to SA Guide-Dogs Association

We are an approved Section 18A organisation, authorised to issue Section 18A tax certificates that donors may use when submitting their annual tax return to SARS.

We are also a registered Public Benefit Organisation and an accredited member of the Guide Dogs Federation (GDF) and Assistance Dogs International (ADI). Through these accreditations, we deliver world-class guide dog, service dog and autism support dog programmes, as well as orientation and mobility training and essential assistive devices — at no cost to our clients.

Our services support visually impaired individuals, people with physical disabilities, and children with autism across South Africa. These services are delivered in line with internationally recognised standards, including through our own College of Orientation and Mobility, serving communities nationwide.

How much can I claim?

You are entitled to deduct the total value of all qualifying donations made during the tax year, up to a maximum of 10% of your taxable income.

Donations must be made before the end of February to qualify for the current tax year.

Are all charities able to issue Section 18A tax certificates?

No. Donating to a charity does not automatically mean that it qualifies for a tax deduction.

While many organisations do valuable work, only registered Public Benefit Organisations that meet strict criteria set by SARS are permitted to issue Section 18A Tax Certificates. These criteria include:

  • Delivering approved public benefit activities (such as health, welfare, education, or humanitarian services)
  • Maintaining valid governance and audit compliance.

Before making a donation, it is always advisable to confirm whether an organisation can issue a Section 18A certificate.
